95 Points - California State Fair Wine Competition
Mike and Renae Matson combine over 40 years of marriage with 30+ years of co-managing various businesses to make their small winery entity, Vino Con Brio, a real success story in California’s Lodi wine region. Vino Con Brio (Italian for “wine with passion”) is known for producing eclectic grapes and interesting blends that aren’t typical in California winemaking. Owner Mike Matson’s particular interest in bringing unique grape varietals back from other countries and planting them in Lodi County truly sets Vino Con Brio apart from the crowd, allowing the Matson family to have a distinctive voice in this rising star wine appellation of California. Located 100 miles east of San Francisco near the San Joaquin River Delta, Lodi has quickly become a premium California wine region and is currently the leading “green” appellation with their “Lodi Rules for Sustainable Winegrowing.” The county is setting a premier example requiring growers to use a wide range of sustainable practices, which promotes continual improvement of farming operations –bravo, Lodi! Vino Con Brio sources fruit from their four estate vineyard properties within the county and takes pride in building Lodi’s reputation of superior viticulture through crafting distinctive wines with immeasurable spirit and passion.
