Napa Valley AVA
Each bottling expresses the love for handcrafted, limited production wines
Founded in 2013 by husband and wife team Ryan and Ryann Calder, TwoFold Wine is a small-lot winery based in St. Helena of Napa Valley, California. With just two vintages released since its start, Twofold Wine focuses exclusively on Sauvignon Blanc, with each bottling expressing the Calders’ love for handcrafted, limited production wines. TwoFold Wine crafts under 200 cases each year, making it one of the tiniest new wineries in Napa Valley’s esteemed wine scene. The name of the winery means “to double” or “made of two parts” and was inspired by the couple’s shared first names.
The winemaker for the entity is Ryan Calder, who hails from the north island of New Zealand. Backed with a degree in Viticulture and Enology from Lincoln University (Pennsylvania), Ryan is a classically trained winemaker who has had the opportunity to work for various wineries throughout New Zealand and Napa Valley. In New Zealand, Ryan served as a cellar hand at Morton Estate and Villa Maria Estate, and also as a vineyard assistant at Sileni Estate. Upon moving to the United States, Ryan has gained valuable cellar and winemaking experience at Cakebread Cellars, The Terraces, and Artesa Winery, where he is still currently the assistant winemaker under Ana Diogo Draper.
Ryan’s wife, Ryann, is American born and raised and also has experience in the wine industry, ranging from sales and event planning, to administrative management. For TwoFold Wine, Ryann leaves the science of winemaking up to her husband, but she is always ready to assist in tasting trials when needed.
Ryan and Ryann are certainly off to a strong start, earning Gold Medals on both of their first two vintages - Sauvignon Blancs from the Stanley Family Vineyard, nestled within the Oak Knoll AVA of Napa Valley. They plan to release their first red blend sometime next year. We hope you enjoy this Garagiste Wine Club feature of TwoFold Wine. Cheers!
