Sculpterra Winery
Paso Robles AVA
Paul Frankel had always loved the outdoors - especially farming - and it was only natural that he would follow his family into the wine grape growing business.
The story behind Paso Robles’ Sculpterra Winery and Sculpture Garden begins in 1979 when Dr. Warren Frankel, his wife Kathy, and their three young children moved to Paso Robles from the San Fernando Valley with a vision for a simpler life. Warren and Kathy Frankel wanted to raise their children in the countryside and found a breathtaking property in the Linne Valley of Paso Robles - a 265-acre ranch to be exact, with a setting that was perfect for growing wine grapes.
The Frankel family first planted 20 acres of pistachios on the ranch, followed by 20 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. After initial success with both plantings, Dr. Frankel expanded the vineyard operation with more Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Merlot. The most recent additions to the vineyard include Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre, Petite Sirah, and Viognier, all of which flourish in the Paso Robles wine growing region.
For the first ten years or so, the Frankel family did not make any wine and simply sold their fruit to other amazing wineries in the region (including Castoro and J. Lohr). It was Dr. Frankel’s dream though, that his son Paul Frankel would someday have the desire to make wine and together they could open a winery and tasting room of their own.
Paul Frankel had always loved the outdoors - especially farming - and it was only natural that he would follow his family into the wine grape growing business. After graduating with a Wine and Viticulture degree from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Paul teamed up with his father to establish Sculpterra Winery - and he would become the entity’s winemaker.
In 2006, the Frankel family broke ground on the winery and opened for business in October of 2007. What they envisioned building was a winery and tasting room that would showcase the estate vineyard fruit and become a destination for wine and art aficionados. Now featuring a fine portfolio of ultra premium wines, fine art, and a multi-million dollar sculpture garden, Sculpterra certainly makes for a memorable wine tasting experience. Each year, the beautiful property, with its estate vineyards, stunning world-class sculptures, and rolling hills dotted with amazing 100 year-old oak trees attracts thousands of visitors each year. The homegrown pistachios are also available for sale in the tasting room, by the way.
It is our pleasure to introduce Sculpterra Winery and Sculpture Garden to our Platinum Plus Wine Club members and hope you enjoy this award-winning selection. Cheers!
