From the prestigious Coombsville region of Napa Valley

Founded by Jesus Espinoza and Cruz Calderon in 2010, Scalon Cellars is located just above the legendary Caldwell Vineyard in the prestigious Coombsville region of Napa Valley. Jesus started planting grapevines as a laborer in Napa Valley over twenty years ago, and worked his way up to Vineyard Manager at Caldwell Vineyard. There, he met and became friends with Cruz Calderon who did the construction of Caldwell’s impressive wine cave. It is within this cave, and with Jesus’ grapes, that the idea for Scalon Cellars was born.

Teaming up with Caldwell Vineyard’s renowned winemaker, Marbue Marke, Jesus and Cruz decided to make a premium, small production Cabernet Sauvignon, a varietal that thrives in the famed Coombsville AVA and one that Jesus is an expert at growing. The vines were planted just above Caldwell, and the first Scalon Cellars wine (just 95 cases) was made in 2010.

Now anticipating the fourth vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Scalon Cellars is creating quite the buzz as one of Coombsville’s hottest up and coming small producers of off-the-charts Cabernet. The hard-working men behind the brand are incredibly enthusiastic about their ultra-boutique wine and are very proud of the brand’s success thus far.

The brand, by the way, is a combination of Jesus Espinoza’s and Cruz Calderon’s last names. The wine’s label is also personalized with a statuesque Andalusian horse, which is a direct nod to Jesus and Cruz’s heritage. Andalusian horses, also known as Pure Spanish Horses, are elegant, strongly built, prized by the nobility, and often recognized as war horses. This fitting symbol also represents the elegance, masculinity, and grace of the Scalon Cabernet Sauvignon. We hope you enjoy this inaugural vintage of Scalon Cabernet, the beginning of what’s sure to be a remarkable legacy of world-class wines. We are pleased to offer this wine to our Garagiste Wine Club members.
