Premonition Cellars

Sonoma County region

A boutique passion project in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, Premonition Cellars is a dream come true for Garagiste winemaker Anthony Schroth.

A boutique, award-winning winery in Sonoma County, California, Premonition Cellars is the brainchild of Anthony Schroth - the founder, grower and winemaker behind the brand. Since 2009, Anthony has released limited-production wines from Sonoma’s Russian River Valley with a focus on elegance and balance through a lightly-handed, fruit-driven style. His passion for winemaking and dedication to quality and hard work is evident in every aspect of Premonition Cellars’ operation, and he’s thrilled to share his labor of love with Gold Medal Wine Club members.

Born in San Diego, California, Anthony grew up loving sports. He played everything from baseball and hockey, to football and soccer, and dreamed of playing in the pros. When it came time for college, he was recruited to play baseball at Sonoma State University and at the time, had no idea that a different career was about to take shape.

It all started quite by accident, when Anthony was selecting courses to fill his class schedule. The accounting course he needed was full, so he was forced to make another choice, and on a whim decided on an introductory wine class. What began as an inconvenience became the start of Anthony’s career as a winemaker.

From that first class, Anthony was immediately drawn in and signed up for a fall internship at O’Brien Family Winery in Napa Valley - a small, family-owned winery that allowed him to wear a lot of different hats and get the full winery experience. His immersion there into the wine culture allowed him to see everything the wine industry had to offer and he realized this was the path for him. Anthony ended up graduating from Sonoma State with a double major in Marketing and Wine Business and he was on his way.

While working at Harvest Moon Estate and Winery after college, Anthony was approached by a grower looking to sell some Pinot Noir grapes. Although his vineyard was in poor shape and his fruit fell short of his standards, Anthony offered to get his business back into quality condition. He put much time and effort into the endeavor, and during his long hours in the vineyard, Anthony would fantasize about his future in the wine industry - he had a ‘premonition’ about his ideal winery business and in 2009 that vision was born with Premonition Cellars.

Today, Anthony continues his passion project, focusing on small-lot Zinfandels, Pinot Noirs, and a unique Chardonny-Gewürztraminer blend from the Russian River Valley. He hopes these wines affect others in the same way they have for him.
