A top boutique producer in Napa Valley
Michael-Scott Wines was founded in 1996 as an ultra-boutique winery specializing in limited-lot Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel on the Westside of the Napa Valley. Owner and winemaker Michael Quinn produces just around 1,000 cases each year, focusing on fruit from sustainably farmed properties in Napa and Sonoma Counties. Although still fairly under the radar, Michael-Scott Wines has garnered a number of top ratings and medals from critics and sommeliers alike, and many of the wines have been on the lists of some of the finest restaurants in the country.
Michael Quinn, a Napa native, got his start in the industry through viticulture and started his career at a young age in 1975 with the Mondavi family at Charles Krug Winery. Five years later, he became the Vineyard Manager of the historic Stanly Ranch and started growing Pinot Noir for Beaulieu Vineyards and Domaine Chandon. From there, Michael moved into the sales and marketing side of the wine business and took a job with a fine wine distributor in Northern California. He also dabbled in consulting, handling the national sales for a number of smaller wineries in the area. Now with over twenty years of wine industry experience behind him, Michael was ready to start his own winery and Michael-Scott Wines became a reality.
Michael-Scott wines are made at Artesa Winery in the Carneros region of Napa Valley. Here, Michael Quinn uses state-of-the-art equipment and focuses on using eco-friendly techniques to craft his small production wines. As the sole owner of his tiny winery, Michael wears a number of different hats and is involved in all of the day-to-day operations – production, national sales, and marketing.
When Michael Quinn is away from the winery, he can be found working on his other project as private label producer using some of the nest vineyards in Napa, Sonoma, and Northern California. His company is actually one of the fastest growing private label wine companies in the industry – most likely due to his strict quality standards and reputation for consistency year-to-year.
