McEvoy Ranch Wines
Marin County AVA
Thoughtfully-crafted, organic wines honoring a legacy that inspires the family to be respectful of the natural beauty that surrounds them
The story of McEvoy Ranch started in 1990 when Nan McEvoy, a pioneer in her field, purchased a 550-acre sprawling ranch in West Marin County. She was originally inspired by her love of Tuscan olive oil and set out to create a truly unique setting for growing the best olive varieties on her property. Fast-forward twenty years and McEvoy Ranch became one of the preeminent leaders in certified organic, extra virgin olive oil. It is a favorite of chefs - both at home and in restaurants that favor the farm-to-table approach.
Olive oil was just the beginning though. Nan McEvoy also created the ODE Natural Beauty Collection, infused with 100% organic olive oil and botanicals, inspired by the scents and aromas of the McEvoy Ranch estate. The products can be found in exclusive spas throughout the globe and in premium retailers. Nan also started a robust culinary collection, featuring premium tapenades, vinegars, jams and marmalades, made with products from her own McEvoy Ranch and garden, and neighboring farms of like-minded artisans.
In 2006, McEvoy Ranch took on its next adventure: handcrafting limited-edition wine offerings from the family property. Talk of winemaking began around the McEvoy family's dining table, and they knew the Ranch's rolling hills were an ideal location for growing world-class grapes.
The first grapevines were planted under the direction of Nan and her son Nion, and for the first few years, the team experimented with different varietals, clones and planting methods. The McEvoy Ranch is now home to five certified organic vineyards planted across 28 acres of land with several Mediterranean varietals thriving in the cool-climate Petaluma Gap region the Ranch calls home. McEvoy Ranch's first official vintage was produced in 2010.
Winemaker for McEvoy Ranch is Byron Kosuge, a native of Davis, California who brings extensive winemaking experience with stints at Saintsbury, Miura, Kingston Family Vineyards, and Small Vines Wines. He also crafts wine for his own B. Kosuge brand in Sonoma Coast.
In 2014, Nion McEvoy became the owner and president of McEvoy Ranch. In addition to his work at the Ranch, Nion is Chairman and CEO of Chronicle Books and he currently serves as Commissioner for the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as well as serving on the boards of the SF Film Society, the UCSF Foundation, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Nion is also a poet and art collector, and his love of music is often intertwined with his responsibilities at McEvoy Ranch and Chronicle Books.
Nion's mother and McEvoy Ranch's founder, Nan McEvoy, passed away in 2015, reminding the family to live every moment to its full potential and to continually seek out new opportunities. Her vision and drive inspire the family to be respectful of the natural beauty that surrounds them, and what better way to honor her legacy than by upholding the award-winning McEvoy Ranch and its array of thoughtfully-crafted, organically made products. We hope you enjoy one of their latest releases especially selected for our Gold Wine of the Month Club Plus! bottle. Cheers!
