Lotierzo Family Vineyards
Paso Robles AVA
Only using the highest quality fruit and barrels while never taking shortcuts in the winemaking process to make the best wines possible
Established in 2012, Lotierzo Family Vineyards is a boutique, family-owned winery whose goal and focus is to craft premium-quality wines that the Lotierzo family is proud to share with friends and family. Robert Lotierzo’s grandfather once made wine for his family and neighbors in the 1920’s and 1930’s, and Robert is excited to revive that tradition here in California.
After retiring from his career as a ship broker, Robert Lotierzo decided to start making wine as a hobby. He had always loved wine, and during his prior career, had the opportunity to travel and explore some of the great wine growing regions of the world. Robert took a number of courses in Winemaking and Vineyard Production and Management via the esteemed University of California school system and made his first wines in 2006. The following year, with the help of many friends, he planted a small vineyard at his home in Encinitas - one that he still grows and manages today, and he allows his former teacher to use as an educational vineyard site for students. The initial plantings were of the Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and later on, Robert also grafted some Nebbiolo - the Italian varietal from Northern Italy used to make the famous Barolo and Barbaresco wines. While waiting for the new vines to mature, Robert Lotierzo continued honing his winemaking skills by sourcing grapes from premier sites in Sonoma County, Paso Robles, and the up-and-coming Guadalupe Valley of Baja California, and crafting small-lot wines for friends and family. The wines were made in his garage under the brand name, ‘Bridachia,’ which is a combination of Robert’s three children’s names - Brian, David, and Chiara.
It wasn’t long before Robert’s wines were earning such prestigious awards as Best in Class, Double Gold Medals and Gold Medals at local wine competitions. He was pleasantly surprised and humbled by the recognition, and with such reward and encouragement, he decided to take the plunge and obtain a commercial winery license. Lotierzo Family Vineyards became a reality a few short years later in 2012.
The inaugural release of Lotierzo Family Vineyards wines came in 2014 and included a Paso Robles Zinfandel and Guadalupe Valley Nebbiolo. Robert has since added a Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Syrah from Paso Robles, and a Pinot Noir from the Sta. Rita Hills - the inaugural Pinot Noir vintage is this month's featured wine! All of the Lotierzo Family wines are made in extremely limited quantities and are very hard to find outside of a selection of nearby Central Coast restaurants. Robert Lotierzo currently makes his wines at Daou Vineyards in Paso Robles, which is owned by close friends of his who he met while taking various winemaking classes.
For Robert Lotierzo's inaugural vintage of Pinot Noir, he sourced fruit from the esteemed Spear Vineyards, a Sustainable and Certified Organic property nested in the heart of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation of Santa Barbara County. Planted in 2013 by vigneron, Ofer Shepher, Spear Vineyards is one of the most talked about vineyards in the appellation, producing exceptionally concentrated fruit and outstanding wines.
It is Robert Lotierzo's promise to never take shortcuts in his winemaking process, to only use the highest quality fruit and barrels, and to strive to make the best wines possible. He hopes our Pinot Noir wine subscription members enjoy this wine as much as he enjoyed making it.
