Galante Vineyards
Monterey AVA
This winery's rustic charm and cattle ranch roots make it a visitor favorite
Galante Vineyards’ owner Jack Galante has family roots that run deep in Monterey County. His great-grandfather, J.F. Devendorf, founded the town of Carmel and later built the prestigious Pine and Highlands Inns that today offer elegant accommodations for wine country get-a-ways.
In 1969, Jack’s parents purchased one of the largest cattle ranches in rustic Carmel Valley (700 acres), and the Galantes continue to run the family operation to this day. In 1983, they started growing premium grapes on the property and planted a portion of the estate to Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes were sold to neighboring wineries, including Morgan and Bernardus, and the resulting wines were of excellent quality with consistently high marks and rave reviews.
When Jack took over the grape growing business a few years later, he decided to build an estate winery with his family’s award-winning grapes and Galante Vineyards and Winery was born. The winery first gained recognition for its esteemed lineup of Cabernet Sauvignons – two single vineyard bottlings and an estate blend called Rancho Galante – but the vineyard is now diversified to include Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.
Galante Vineyards’ rustic charm and cattle ranch roots make it a visitor favorite, and their award-winning wines have made them a premier Cabernet Sauvignon producer of Monterey County, and of all of California.
