Frequency Wine Co.

Santa Barbara County region

A family oriented, small-lot producer in the heart of Santa Barbara County, Frequency Wine Company offers hard-to-find, highly rated wines that celebrate the region and the growing season.

A boutique Santa Barbara winery specializing in Rhône varietals, Frequency Wine Company was established by newcomer winemaker Zac Wasserman in 2011. What started as a tiny passion project has slowly grown into a renowned entity that features fruit from some of the most well-known and desirable vineyard properties in Santa Barbara County. Today, Zac is one of the most talented young winemakers in the region, crafting a range of award-winning wines that seem to get better and better with each anticipated vintage.

A Santa Barbara wine country native, Zac grew up amidst the romance of the Santa Ynez Valley, but decided to pursue a pre-med degree at UC Berkeley when it came time for college. After several years, Zac realized the “grunt work” he was putting in at a lab that turned algae into biofuel wasn’t overly fulfilling, and he yearned for something more. When he spoke with his sister, Almond Wasserman, who was working for Winemaker Joey Tensley with an opportunity to make her own barrel of wine, he was sold. In 2010, Zac quit his job, moved back to Santa Barbara County, and immediately went to work with Joey Tensley.

Starting out with a harvest job, Zac was excited by everything the wine industry offered and he quickly worked his way up to Assistant Winemaker at Tensley Wines. The following year, he launched his own winery project called Frequency Wine Company, “born from the belief that positive energy can be created, bottled, and shared through the world to be sown and harvested for a vast influence.” He teamed up with his sister and started very small, focusing on Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre - the three varietals that make up the popular ‘GSM’ Rhône-style blend.

Over the years, Zac has honed a style of wine all his own, pulling inspiration from many creative forms and slowly growing his label from the original duo of GSM blends to include other exciting varietals like Graciano, Mourvèdre, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. All of the fruit is sourced from premium vineyard sites in Santa Barbara County and the finished wines are made in very limited quantities.

Zac recently opened a modern furnished tasting room in the historic Presidio neighborhood of downtown Santa Barbara, offering visitors a chance to taste through his award-winning portfolio. He is joined by his sister, Almond Wasserman, his mother, Maria Wasserman, and his wife, Nicole Wasserman. We are proud to share this passionate family winery with our wine club members. Please enjoy!
