This Special Feature comes from Dierberg Vineyard, one of the darlings of the Central Coast with an award-winning reputation that is just plain hard to beat. Founded in 1997 by Jim and Mary Dierberg, the winery focuses on crafting premium, limited production Burgundian-style wines from two very distinctive vineyard sites - one in the Santa Maria Valley and one in the Santa Rita Hills. These expressive, terrior-driven wines have garnered countless 90+ ratings and awards over the years, solidifying Dierberg Vineyard as a top Central Coast producer who continues to raise the standard for excellence. Jim and Mary Dierberg are no newcomers to wine, and in fact, have owned the Hermannhof Winery in Hermann, Missouri, since 1974. While the town’s history and charm was appealing to the Dierbergs, the Midwestern climate couldn’t support the traditional European varietals that Jim and Mary had grown to love.
In 1996, they moved to California’s Central Coast, and achieved their dream with Dierberg Vineyard. Today, the entire Dierberg Vineyard operation is one big family affair, with the Dierbergs’ grown children and their spouses intimately involved in the day-to-day operations of the vineyard and winery. It just the beginning of what promises to be a very endearing legacy.
