Coghlan Vineyard

Santa Ynez Valley AVA

The response to their first few releases has been remarkable

Rightfully known as the newest gem of the Santa Ynez Valley, Coghlan Vineyard and Jewelers is a one-of-a-kind destination in the quaint downtown square of Los Olivos. Husband and wife co-owners, Eric and Samantha Coghlan are not only certified gemologists with a one-of-a-kind fine jewelry business, but they also recently became winery owners after being inspired by the wine country of Santa Ynez. Eric grew up in Kosciusko, Mississippi where his grandfather founded the original Coghlan Jewelers in 1956. He was determined to follow in his family’s footsteps, and attended the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) where he met his future wife Samantha. Samantha was furthering her education as a jewelry designer after starting her own business at the age of 16. They joined forces and have since earned high esteem for their family jewelry business.

While on a wine tasting trip in the Santa Ynez Valley for their anniversary, Eric and Samantha realized they had a second calling in life and in 2009 purchased a vineyard property in Happy Canyon. Not only did Santa Ynez seem like a perfectly unique place to settle and show their art, but the beautiful surrounding vineyards further inspired the Coghlans’ primal connection to the land and its wonderful hidden treasures. With the help of winemaker Allan Phillips, Coghlan Vineyard & Jewelers was made a reality and their first vintage was crafted that same year. The limited portfolio includes a Cabernet Sauvignon and Red Blend harvested from their estate vineyard, and a pair of Pinot Noirs sourced from acclaimed single vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills appellation.

The response to the first few releases has been remarkable – with even the first vintage taking home a 2nd place overall award and multiple Gold Medals from industry competitions. In 2011, the Coghlans opened up a combined jewelry store and wine tasting room in downtown Los Olivos where visitors can enjoy their unique marriage of two passions – jewelry and wine.
