Bushong Vintage Company
Paso Robles AVA
A visit to Bushong Vintage Company promises to be an experience unlike any other in Paso Robles.
Artisan, small-lot wine producer Jason Bushong has been crafting eclectic, award-winning wines for over twenty years. In 2017, he finally opened his own winery and tasting room, Bushong Vintage Company, in downtown Paso Robles where he shares his passion for small-lot wines in a unique, contemporary space.
Jason was born in Ohio but grew up primarily in Southern California doing what most kids were doing: collecting vinyl, listening to Duran Duran, and discovering his passions. At one point, while Jason was a senior in high school, one of his friends shared a bottle of Santa Barbara County Chardonnay with him and it was his first wine ‘Aha!’ moment that seemed to set his destiny in motion. From that time forward, Jason was fascinated with wine and it was clear this was the career path for him.
Jason’s first wine industry experience was as an intern at Fieldbrook Winery in Humboldt County, but over the years, he has worked in several different AVA’s throughout California, giving him a keen sense of how to produce elegant, balanced wines from the variety of soils and climates available. Although he started dabbling with making his own wine in 2006, it wasn’t until 2017 that he officially launched Bushong Vintage Company to showcase his microproduction wines from the Central Coast.
Bushong Vintage Company is one of the more unique wineries in Paso Robles with a very urban lounge-type setting based downtown. The contemporary space gives visitors a feel for Jason’s authentic personality with its fun and approachable vibe - complete with a vintage pinball machine, lots of couches, and over 1,000 vinyl LPs to play on a premium hi-fi system. Then, of course, there is the wine. Bushong offers quite an eclectic range of wines with everything from Albariño and Sparkling Gewürztraminer to Pinot Noir, Rosé, Syrah, Grenache, and Tannat, among others. Each wine has its own graphic artwork design on the label with a story to tell, which is a nod to Jason’s love of art. A visit to Bushong Vintage Company promises to be an experience unlike any other in Paso Robles.
When sourcing his fruit, Jason looks to the Central Coast’s best vineyard sites. While most properties fall within the Paso Robles AVA, he does source small amounts of fruit from Monterey, Edna Valley, and San Simeon as well.
It is with much excitement that we present Jason Bushong and Bushong Vintage Company to our Garagiste Wine Club members. We hope you enjoy this totally unique blend from an up-and-coming producer. Cheers!
