Central Coast AVA
Central Coast in style with traditional Spanish roots
Michael Young, now a legendary personality on the California wine scene, spent his college years in Spain, where he fell in love with the great wines of Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Ever since, he has dreamed of producing high quality Spanish wines at home in California. Prior to establishing Bodegas M, Michael Young gained experience working with companies such as LVMH, Champagne Louis Roederer, and L’Aventure Winery, where he focused on sales and marketing. Overall, Michael brings nearly 40 years of wine industry experience to Bodegas M.
When Michael and Margo met winemaker Alan Kinne in 2004, they knew the fit was undeniable and Bodegas M was born. Alan Kinne had over two decades of winemaking and consulting experience, plus a passion and great familiarity of Spanish wines. Over the years, Alan has made over a dozen trips to Spain’s most famous vineyards, and even brought back vineyard cuttings from the esteemed 60-year-old vineyards of Vina Pedrosa and Pesquera properties in Spain’s Ribera del Duero region to grow the Bodegas M vineyards in Paso Robles and Edna Valley. The partners selected California’s Central Coast for its great similarities to Spain’s Ribera del Duero and its ability to produce wines of great finesse and character.
The Bodegas M team ensures the best possible grapes are grown through rigorous vineyard management and sustainable farming practices. The result is wine that is distinctly Central Coast in style with traditional Spanish roots. Under 400 cases are produced each year.
