An under-the-radar winery offering an exclusive wine country experience, Backstage Winery is the brainchild of the Pera family whose passion for wine is as authentic and genuine as they come.
A family-owned winery based in Napa Valley, California, Backstage Winery was established by winemaker Angelo Pera in 2010. Angelo works closely with his wife, Laura, and their two daughters, Olivia and Christina, to produce small lots of premium, single-vineyard wines from some of the most highly allocated vineyards in Northern California. Just as musicians and bands demand exclusive, top-quality arrangements backstage, it is the Pera family’s goal to produce wines of this caliber for their Backstage Winery.
Angelo’s winemaking career started in 1993 when he was fresh out of Business School, and he’s been perfecting his style ever since. While always fascinated with Old World winemaking methods, Angelo is also inspired by the new cutting-edge, modern winemaking techniques that continue to develop. Over the years, Angelo has discovered that blending the styles gives him the best of both worlds and allows him to produce wines of premium quality. Now with nearly thirty years in the industry, Angelo says he will never be done learning and his passion for winemaking is stronger than ever.
At Backstage Winery, Angelo works with a handful of vineyards in Napa Valley and Sonoma County, focusing on every detail during the growing season to ensure the best grapes make it to his winery. All of the grapes are hand-picked at the vineyard and then hand-selected at the winery, ensuring only the best grapes are used in his Backstage wines. At the winery, only the best French oak wine barrels crafted from Quercus Petraea white oak (the finest) are chosen to age the Backstage wines.
For over ten years, the Pera family has worked together to create this successful vineyard and winery operation. Olivia and Christina, daughters of Angelo and Laura, joined the winery at the young age of sixteen, initially helping in the tasting room. They both developed a strong appreciation for the industry and the Pera family tradition and have now taken on much larger roles in sales and production for Backstage Winery. Laura, Angelo’s wife, has a phenomenal eye for design and helped put together the tasting room located in Larkspur. The Peras are all excited to be a part of the Backstage team and enjoy sharing their passions with visitors and fellow wine enthusiasts.
