AJ Pearce Wines
Napa Valley AVA
Vineyard designated Napa Syrahs and Cabernet Sauvignons
AJ Pearce Wines is a partnership between Jarred Pearce and Andy James (AJ) Renda, two friends who followed their passions in wine to the Napa Valley. The winery is based in Napa’s famed Coombsville region, where the focus is on vineyard-designated Syrahs and Cabernet Sauvignons.
Prior to Andy’s career in wine, it was a love of food and the restaurant industry where he first gained experience. He worked at a number of restaurants in the Boston area and learned the art of pairing haute cuisine with world class wines. Andy then spent eight years managing wine retail shops where he was exposed to a broad spectrum of global offerings. His passion was set in motion and before long, he and his wife-to-be quite their jobs, sold everything they owned, and drove across the country to Napa Valley. Andy found a job as Director of Sales for Vintner’s Collective (a downtown Napa tasting room for boutique labels) where he was introduced to many Napa producers.
Jarred’s wine career started when he moved from Modesto (in California’s Central Valley) to Napa Valley at the young age of 21. He began by selling wine at Oakville Grocery and met many local winemakers from around the Valley. Jarred enrolled at Napa Valley College and studied Viticulture and Enology, where he learned to appreciate wine’s connection to art, science, and agriculture. In 2006, he became cellar master for Pina Cellars in Rutherford, and traveled to South Africa for harvests in 2007 and 2008.
Jarred’s next accomplishment was being named cellar master for Fantesca Estate and winery, where he worked with two of Napa’s top winemakers - Heidi Barrett and Philippe Melka. Andy and Jarred were drawn to Coombsville for the high quality of fruit and the cooler climate. They produced their first vintage (just 150 cases) in 2008 and have since grown to just under 1,000 cases. The AJ Pearce wines are available for tasting at The Wine Thief, a collective that features small production Napa Valley vintners.
