(Merlot pronunciation: Mehr-loh)
Merlot is a red wine variety with strong historic ties to Bordeaux and the southwest of France. This hearty red wine is similar to a Cabernet Sauvignon, but softer and less tannic with lower acidity. An early ripening variety, Merlot gives a round fruit character, soft tannins and a supple texture to the wine, contributing lively fruit characteristics and aromas of red cherries, raspberries and blueberries.
On the palate, Merlot offers flavors of ripe cherry and chocolate flavors, combined with a fleshy texture. Winemakers from the northern tip of Oregon, Napa Valley, the Central Coast of California to the southern borders of Chile produced incredible Merlots. At Gold Medal Wine Club we strive to bring our wine club members only the best of the best Merlots available.
