Edna Valley AVA
San Luis Obispo, Central Coast
Just south of the popular tourist destination of San Luis Obispo, on California’s Central Coast, lies the Edna Valley wine region. Part of the significant Central Coast AVA, Edna Valley is flanked to the south by Lake Lopez and to the north by Islay Hill. It runs east to west with the San Lucas Mountains making up its western border.
Edna Valley boasts one of the state’s longest growing seasons brought about by the cool breezes and morning fog from the Pacific Ocean. This long slow aging process lends itself to producing wines that are well balanced and complex. The Valley is known for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as well as some plantings of Syrah. Viognier an aromatic white wine also does well in this region. There are about 20 wineries in the area with many of them offering tasting rooms to sample their varietals. Many you will find featured in our Gold, Platinum, Garagiste and Pinot Noir Wine Club.
