Central Coast AVA

California

The Central Coast wine region or AVA (American Viticultural Area) encompasses Santa Barbara County on the south end and extends all the way to the San Francisco Bay Area on the north. The appellation was granted based on the area’s common cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean.

With around 100,000 acres of wine grapes planted, about 600 vineyards and wineries and almost 15% of California’s wine grape production, the Central Coast has built up a reputation as a source for some of the world’s great wines. Within the giant Central Coast AV, there are 6 other major appellations: Costa County Region, Monterey AVA, San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County Region, Santa Clara Valley AVA, Santa Cruz Mountains AVA.

While the region produces a great number of varietals the most widely planted are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and the top wine crop Pinot Noir which represent nearly a quarter of all the grapes planted in the Central Coast AVA. Take a look in our Wine Store for the most recent Pinot Noirs we have featured.

Award-winning wines from each and every Central Coast AVA’s have been featured in our Gold Wine Club, Platinum Wine Club, Pinot Noir Wine Club, our limited production Garagiste Wine Club and even our 93+ Rated Diamond Wine Club.
