Torrontes

White

Torrontés (Tor RON taze) has become one of Argentina’s iconic white wines and is grown in all the country’s winemaking regions. The grape produces wines that are light yellow with occasional golden or green hues. Easy drinking, wines made from Torrontés grapes, are fresh and aromatic with notes of peach, apricot, roses and jasmine and a smooth texture with flavors of fruit salad and honey.

Some describe the aromas as similar to Muscat and Gewürtztraminer, but Torrontés wines are not overly sweet. There are three types of Torrontés in Argentina: Torrontés Riojano (which is the most planted), Torrontés Sanjuanino and Torrontés Mendocino. Torrontés Riojano has attracted the most attention in recent years and is grown in La Rioja and Salta regions in northern Argentina. While there are three types of Torrontés, most Argentine wines are simply labeled Torrontés. Torrontés wines are usually enjoyed young as they do not tend to age very well.
