Gold Medal Wine Club Exclusive— We liked this wine so much that we bought the entire production. The Taft Street Russian River Valley Merlot is a small-production, specialty wine produced only in select years.

Taft Street Merlot has been highly acclaimed in the past by the likes of Wine Spectator who proclaimed it as, “One of the Top 50 California Red Wines for Value.” In the wine’s first competition this year, it promptly earned a Silver Medal at the San Francisco area’s North of the Gate Wine Competition.

The 2002 Taft Street Russian River Merlot has an impressive red-purple hue, with notable legs, a smooth and almost-sweet bouquet of ripe cherries, dark berries and cedar aromas. On the palate the wine opens quickly and fills the mouth fully with a prominent blend of dark cherry, oak and hints of vanilla. The finish lingers, with tannins softened by 15 months in oak.
