A dark-skinned red grape varietal, Lemberger (also known as Blaufränkisch) produces wines that are typically rich in tannin with fruity, spicy characters. The grape's origins date back perhaps as early as the Middle Ages under a variety of Fränkisch synonyms. The term Fränkisch was then used to denote wines that were highly praised and grapes that were thought to be capable of producing superior wines.

At Stromberg-Zabergäu, the 2014 Signum I Lemberger is their masterpiece wine. The grapes are grown in their best vineyards that are at least twenty-five years old, and they are closely managed to yield the best fruit possible. Deep red in color, this wine offers complex aromas of vanilla, blackberries, and hints of tobacco. To enhance the full, rich body, the wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The Lemberger is a perfect match for beef dishes in rich sauces.
