Spann Vineyards’ 2006 “Twenty-Six Barrels” Cabernet Sauvignon is Bordeaux-style blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. With Betsy’s memorable first wine tasting experiences in Bordeaux, and Peter’s fascination of Bordeaux wines from his restaurant industry days, it wouldn’t make sense for their Cabernet blend to be any other style.
The grapes were sourced primarily from the Spanns’ own estate vineyard, located at 1,700 feet of elevation, with select pickings from neighboring sites. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot were selected for structure, while the Cabernet Franc and Merlot contribute a sense of richness on the palate in the finished wine.
The International Wine Review awards this stellar bottling 91 POINTS: “This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon that continues to offer aromas of pure blackberries and black currant fruit that are mirrored on the palate. Ripe and rich tasting on the palate, it offers wonderful black fruit flavors with notes of sweet chocolate, a silky mouthfeel, round tannins and a long finish. We have enjoyed tasting this wine over the years; it is a real winner!”
The Spann Vineyards 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon also garnered 90 POINTS from the Sonoma Sommelier publication.
