NEW ZEALAND - 2004 Sileni Estate “The Triangle” Merlot The Hawke’s Bay region has produced wine since the arrival of the first European settlers in the 1850’s, with the first commercial winery recorded in the 1890’s. In the century since then, the vineyard acreage has expanded to become the second largest wine producing region in the country.
With competition results still coming in, the newly released 2004 Triangle Hawke’s Bay Merlot continues to build Sileni Winery’s International status by winning a Silver Medal at the Japan Wine Challenge, and a Silver Medal at the China International Wine Challenge. Sileni Estate’s full-bodied Merlot is produced with fruit from the historic Triangle Vineyards that surround the winery.
This tantalizing dark deep ruby red Merlot opens up displaying a very pleasing bouquet of blackcurrant, plum, vanilla a little tobacco and leather. On the palate, the 2004 Sileni Triangle Merlot has ripe plum and dark berry fruit characters, with a touch of licorice and dark chocolate on the finish. The satin smooth tannins provide the structure for a cellaring potential of 8-10 years.
