Ed Sbragia has loved the Cabernet from Monte Rosso Vineyard for as long as he can remember, and for good reason. With elevations that range from 900 to 1,200 feet, the aptly named Monte Rosso is a classic mountain vineyard, resting firmly on the southwest side of the Mayacamas mountain range in the Sonoma Valley AVA. Sitting above the fog line with undulating hillsides, the vines struggle for nutrients here and the rich concentrated fruit shows it. With the Sbragia Monte Rosso Cabernet, Ed likes to let the integrity of the grand old Monte Rosso vineyard shine through, keeping the intense fruit flavors – black cherry and wild blackberry – front and center, then bolstering it with just enough oak to add structure and interesting notes of spice. This wine has the profile of a refined, old-vine Cabernet – sleek, stylish and alluring, with a plush texture and long expressive finish. Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar rates the Cabernet 92 Points and Robert Parker dons it with 91 Points – adding to its 91+ Point streak since the 2003 vintage!
