Paint Horse Winery’s 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon was produced from the Green family’s estate vineyard in the heart of the Sonoma Valley. This region is generally cooler with fewer great places to grow premium Cabernet Sauvignon than the nearby Napa Valley, but, that being said, there are a few spots where the chemistry between soil, aspect, and temperature allow for well-structured, beautiful Cabernets of great finesse, aromatic complexity, and backbone for extended aging.
Paint Horse Winery’s estate vineyard is one of these such places. Deep red in color, this Cabernet Sauvignon has classic aromas of cassis, ripe berries, and earth with subtle hints of red plums, tea, black olives, cola, and oak. A slight minerality offers a nice balance to the luscious fruit notes. On the palate, the Paint Horse 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and concentrated with complex berry flavors and fine-grained, soft yet well-structured, tannins. The finish is long and lingering, which makes this Cabernet Sauvignon an excellent wine to enjoy now.
