This wine is crafted from the famed Hudson Ranch off of Henry Road in the Carneros AVA of Napa Valley. 2018 marks the first year with the addition of Block 6S paired with our select rows in Block 5BS. This unique new block planted in sandy soil, adds to the overall depth and complexity bringing verve and energy to the palate. The adjacent blocks are both planted to Odette Estate Winemaker Jeff Owens favorite clone, old shot wente, also referred to as chicks and hens.
Impressions:
The 2018 Odette Reserve Chardonnay is 100% barrel fermented in 80% new French Oak and sur lie aged for 16 months on its lees. Extremely slow, cool, native fermentations contributed to the purity of fruit, elegance and true expression of this site. Appealing now but worthy of aging, this old shot wente selection offers notes of stone fruits, lemon zest, beeswax, apple blossoms and jasmine, framed by stunning freshness and a gorgeous texture.
