The Dolcetto grape traces its origins to the Italian region of Piedmont in northwest Italy. It is traditionally the first red wine the Piemontese drink after harvest. Dolcetto wines are soft, round, fragrant and jam packed with the essence of fresh fruit. Monte Volpe’s 1996 Dolcetto is a Gold Medal winner and recipient of Restaurant Wine magazine’s 5-Star rating, the highest possible recommendation. “Superb,” says Restaurant Wine. “Tasting like a top one from Piedmont,” they continue. The wine is very dark purple in color and has flavors and aromas of fresh ripe blackberries, raspberries, and plums. It is a wonderful food wine that pairs well with a wide variety of meat dishes. Try it with seasoned roast pork or filet mignon. Mmmm. . .
