Barbera, known for its great berry fruit and high acidity, is an Italian variety most famously coming from the northern part of Italy in Piedmont. At Madroña’s 3,000-foot-elevation, the fruit characters are fresher with high-tone cranberry mixed in with cherry and ruby grapefruit, making a lively and exhilarating wine of exceptional quality. Bright, fresh, racy, and refreshing, the 2021 Barbera Rosé showcases the reason Barbera is such an amazing variety. The color is classic “onion skin” (not pink!), and the complex aromas of tree-ripened citrus embrace the whole spectrum from lemon and lime to grapefruit, cranberry, and strawberry. On the palate, this wine is dry with a candy-like sweet/tart entry with flavors of lemon zest, red berry, and citrus-minerality. A nice touch of toastiness comes through on the bright finish. Enjoy!
