The Toccata 2021 ‘Barrel Selection’ Pinot Noir was produced from Lucas & Lewellen’s Los Alamos Valley Vineyard, located along Highway 101 just south of the town of Los Alamos in Santa Barbara County. Some of the vines planted here are from cuttings brought over from Europe more than 25 years ago! These vines have long been a favorite source for many of California’s most acclaimed wineries. While Pinot Noir may be best recognized as a French varietal, the grape is also grown in the Asti region of Italy, where it is referred to as “Pinot Nero.” The grapes for Toccata’s 2021 ‘Barrel Selection’ Pinot Noir were handharvested and carefully selected for complexity and elegance. Several different Pinot Noir clones were blended together in the process. Aromas of dried cherries, rose petals and hints of dark chocolate open on the nose, while the palate offers sultry tannins and balanced, bright acidity to support flavors of cola, lavender, and exotic spices. Enjoy!
