This bold, rich and creamy Chardonnay is truly elegant and has the identifiable Lewis touch. Chardonnay is whole cluster pressed, barrel fermented and aged sur lies (wine sediment) with bâtonnage (occasional stirring) in 100% French oak. While aging for 11-15 months the wine underwent 100% malolactic fermentation, where the acidity is reduced and the wine ‘softens’.
The aroma of the 2015 Lewis Chardonnay centers around ripe Bosc pear and Fuji apple with hints of caramel custard and hazelnut. Thickly textured and satiny smooth like French Echire butter, the full-bodied texture is the backdrop for flavors of white peach, baked green apple, pineapple, hazelnut, cantaloupe, vanilla and an allusion of fennel. The finish is rich and lingering. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
