John Alan’s 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the winery’s small, state-of- the-art vineyard in Templeton, California, that is perfectly suited to the Rhône and Bordeaux varietals planted there. With such a limited annual production (just 2,500 cases are released each year), most of the John Alan wines are not able to be sent out for review – but their reputation alone has warranted them a “cult-status” among Paso Robles producers.
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, a Gold Medal Special Selection, is supremely dense with a rich core of dried currants, black cherries, elderberries, and hints of kirsch (a German cherry- brandy). Delightfully creamy, yet firm on the mid palate, this Cabernet has a simply stunning finish, exuding soft tannins, smooth vanilla, and light chocolate flavors.
