The Charles Heintz 2014 ‘Swan Selections’ Pinot Noir features the Swan Pinot Noir clone, a Sonoma County treasure that has adapted to the Heintz family’s local terroir. The source for the celebrated clone is Joseph Swan’s Russian River Valley estate, which was originally planted in 1969. The wines made from this clone tend to provide bright fruit and elegance. All manners of cherry are front and center in this beautiful 2014 ‘Swan Selections’ Pinot Noir - red cherry, dark cherry, fresh cherry and dried cherry. On the nose, subtle notes of black raspberry, Santa Rosa plum, allspice, and violets are accented by a subtle woodsy character. The palate is deep, dense, and layered with grippy, fine-grained tannins and crisp, refreshing acidity. A nice touch of minerality comes through in the long, lingering finish.
