The San Francisco Chronicle's 24-person tasting panel rated this Bordeaux style 1999 Encounter as one of the "Top Wines of 2003" - "Big, smoky, Bordeaux-like nose, rich earth, mushroom, leather and spiced plum; bright mid-palate, rustic black cherry cola, tobacco, cassis; complex, intriguing."
The Wine Enthusiast Buying Guide rates it 91 Points - "Smoke and leather aromas get this one out of the blocks in fine fashion. The mouth is bursting with juicy berry and cherry fruit and there's tons of length and dark coffee nuances to the finish. It's certainly chunky; some might even call it a fruit bomb. But it hold onto its racy, fresh side, so despite its power, it's well-balanced and well-made."
