Emerging from the tiny appellation of Condrieu in the northern Rhône Valley of France, Viognier has become a rising star in California vineyards, especially those found on California's Central Coast.
The Edward Sellers' 2009 Viognier (pronounce vee-ohn-yay) was produced from the western hills of Paso Robles where the terroir is aptly suited to the grape. Edward Sellers makes their Viognier in an elegant, old-world style that accentuates the best qualities of this varietal.
The 2009 Viognier displays a light and attractive golden with a nose of lemon rind, quince, jasmine, orange blossom, and freshly cut flowers. On the palate, balanced aciidity mingles with tropical hints of pineapple, apricot an ripe citrus flavors to create a textured wine of great elegance and versatility. Just 149 cases were produced of this luscious wine, and we were fortunate to reserve a few cases before it sold out at the winery. Now, the 2009 Viognier is almost impossible to find outside of Gold Medal Wine Club. Try pairing the Edward Sellers 2009 Viognier with grille fish or macademia nut crusted chicken.
