The flagship Edward Sellers wine, the Cuvee des Cinq is an elegant, refined blend of five unique Rhône varietals (Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, Counoise, and Cinsault), taken from the vintage's best barrels. The wines are blended together and aged in oak for another 12 months before bottling, allowing for the layers of complexity to develop and mature into a seamless finished wine. Although the exact proportions of the fruit varies vintage to vintage, each year the Cuvee des Cinq is an extraordinary wine with subtle intricacies.
The 2007 Cuvee des Cinq was awarded 89 Points by Robert Parker: A seductive, expansively scented and flavored wine displaying abundant amounts of black cherry and strawberry fruit intermixed with pepper, roasted herbs, and spice. It is a delicious California Côtes du Rhône look-alike.
This terroir-driven wine has luscious plum and dark berry aromas with silky fruit flavors and old-world earthy nuances that show off the wonderful distinctness of Paso Robles fruit. Crafted with ageability in mind, the 2007 Cuvee des Cinq is wonderful now, but will continue to mature for many years.
