The fruit for Dutton-Goldfield’s 2017 Rued Vineyard Chardonnay hails from a redwood ringed, east-facing hillside in the Green Valley of Sonoma’s Russian River Valley. Here, Warren Dutton planted his scenic Chardonnay vineyard in 1969 and it has produced exceptional fruit ever since, resulting in legendary wines of great structure and fruit focus. On the nose, explosive notes of apple, Asian pear, and lemon-lime fruit are interlaced with gardenia and lemon blossom. The palate is decadently creamy, with flavors of lychee and orchard fruit compote that are kept lively by a core of focused citrus. This Chardonnay finishes with a wonderful combination of brightness and richness, like a lemon cake with butter brickle ice cream on the side. Enjoy!
