As the name suggests, DuMOL’s 2016 ‘Wild Mountainside’ Syrah was produced exclusively from high-elevation mountain vineyards in the Russian River Valley, where vines struggle to produce small crops of truly unique character and incredible quality. The vineyards, Greywacke, Hoppe-Kelly, and Timbervine, are among the finest Syrah vineyards, not only in Sonoma County, but in all of California.
Inky and concentrated, the 2016 ‘Wild Mountainside’ Syrah offers blackberry, boysenberry and blueberry fruit characters that dominate both the aromas and the palate. The fruit is plush and deep, but there is also a sense of mountain precision and detail, and hints of floral lilac and wild thyme that add wonderful complexity. A savory ferrous note adds intrigue to the full-bodied palate, but the wine remains fine and polished throughout.
