Derby’s 2008 Implico is a Bordeaux-style blend comprised of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Merlot. Although the Implico’s varietal composition changes from vintage to vintage, the theme of blending fruit from vineyards in both east and west Paso Robles remains the same each year. The name, Implico, is Latin for intimately connected.
This 2008 vintage blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Laura’s Vineyard in east Paso Robles with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from Jada Vineyard in west Paso Robles. Deep ruby in color, the 2008 Implico has oak-spiced aromas of dark berries, vanilla, and licorice with hints of smoke and herbs. On the palate, the wine is lush and full-bodied with a layered, rich texture, solid freshness, and flavors of sappy blackberry, cassis, and mocha. The wine lingers on the finish with nice fruit notes.
