The Charles Creek Vineyard 2001 La Sonrise del Tecolote [the smile of the owl] may just be the best quality/value Cabernet Sauvignon of the year.

For starters this wine won a Best of Class distinction and Gold Medal at the Los Angeles County Fair Wines of the World Competition. Then followed with a Gold Medal at the Grand Harvest Awards, a Gold Medal at the Critic's Challenge Competition and Gold Medal at the North of the Gate Press Democrat Wine Competition. It also garnered a solid 92-Point rating from the Wine Enthusiast magazine, "...the fruit emerges, currants and cherries, blackberries and plums, and they ride through the finish. It is a classic, cellar worthy Napa Cabernet that will only get better through 2010." The California Grapevine publication rounds out the accolades with its "Very Highly Recommended" rating.

This is the kind of wine that gets better with each sip as it opens up in your glass. Try decanting about 30 or 40 minutes before enjoying with dinner.
