About the Products

wooden platter of mexican spicesOregano Indio
Rancho Gordo

Rancho Gordo’s Oregano Indio is grown by the Oregano Caxtle Cooperative in the town of Tlahuitelpa in the Huasteca region of central-eastern Mexico. The earthy notes in this Oregano make it a wonderful addition to salsas and guisados. It’s also delicious used as a rub for pork tenderloin, or added to oil and vinegar for a salad dressing.

Banana Vinegar
Stivalet/Rancho Gordo

Rich and delicious, but never cloying, this Banana Vinegar is made from fermented bananas in Veracruz, Mexico. This mild and fruity vinegar comes from the Casa Stivalet plantation, made specifically from the platano machos breed of bananas that lie somewhere between a regular banana and a plantain. A delicious addition to salad dressings, and also an unexpected - yet delightful - treat to drizzle over vanilla ice cream.

Sweet Xoconostle
Xoxoc/Rancho Gordo

Xoconostle are sour prickly pears that grow on cactus in Mexico. On their own, they add a nice sour note to stews and salsas and are essential for the classic dish, Mole de Olla. Xoxoc, in Hidalgo, Mexico, dries these fruits and sweetens them slightly with unprocessed sugar cane. The result is a simply irresistible snack that is both tart and sweet.
