The 1998 Zinfandel is Baileyana’s first vintage of this varietal and they hit it right on the mark. Winner of a Gold Medal at the New World International Competition and rated an impressive 89-Points from the highly regarded wine publication, Connoisseur’s Guide — “Plump and juicy Zinfandel fruit gains complexity from hints of dried spices, a suggestion of green leaves and a quiet dollop of vanillin oak. Fairly full in feel and reasonably balanced, the wine is supple at entry and firmed in the finish by acid and tannin while maintaining its basic fruit flavorings along the way.” This great Zin comes from low yielding vineyards which produce smaller but highly concentrated berries. This is a smooth, ripe, and rich wine showing intricate layers of black cherry, cedar and spice that culminates in a long finish.
