The Aberrant 2011 ‘Virtus Ex’ Pinot Noir is Eric Eide’s first AVA-designated wine, representing the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The Latin name ‘Virus Ex,’ which roughly translates to strength or virtue, represents the powerful yet elegant nature of the Pinots produced in this region. Light bright red in color, the 2011 Virtus Ex Pinot Noir opens with aromas of sweet oak, red currant, sandalwood, dried red fruits, and allspice. The wine is silky and broad on the palate with flavors of raspberry, cherry compote, fresh herbs, and a touch of licorice. It’s beautifully structured and shows textural richness while embracing a nice brightness and energy. Soft tannins linger on the finish.
Wine Regions of the World
All six of our wine of the month clubs include wines from a multitude of wine growing regions, and as the French say, the concept of terroir is paramount. This idea stretches well beyond France and is a large contributing factor for wines produced in all wine regions around the world.
