The Sodaro Family’s Estate Vineyard and Winery is located on a magnificent property set amongst the hillsides of Coombsville in southeast Napa Valley, California. This tiny estate winery has been specializing in limited-production Cabernet blends since its inception in 1998, but the Sodaro family’s storied wine lineage actually begins in the midst of the 19th century with Don Sodaro’s grandfather, Giuseppe Sodaro. For many years, Giuseppe was a barrel cooper in the Italian town of Vallelunga, Sicily, making wine barrels by hand and serving wineries throughout the region. In 1894, Giuseppe moved his family to America to pursue greater opportunity. Though the family’s passion for wine ran deep, it would be another hundred years (and three Sodaro generations later) before they realized their dream of starting a winery to carry on the family legacy in the New World. Don Sodaro and his wife Felicity (nicknamed Deedee) began their search for the perfect terrior in 1996 and knew they’d found someplace special when they discovered an incredible property in Coombsville, Napa Valley. Here they founded Sodaro Estate Winery in 1998 and planted small blocks of the five traditional Bordeaux varietals on the extraordinarily diverse piece of land. The Sodaros hired veteran winemakers Bill and Dawnine Dyer to craft the Sodaro Estate wines, and their results thus far have been remarkable. Combining excellent terrior with a husband-wife winemaking team who have over 60 years of combined experience in Napa Valley has certainly been a recipe for success. Sodaro’s boutique, high-end wines keep getting better with each release, and today are among the best values in Napa Valley.
