Ehret Family Winery - Knights Valley, Sonoma Count

94 Points Wine Enthusiast magazine

Ehret Family Winery is the creation of husband and wife team, Pierre and Susan Ehret, who are dedicated to handcrafting estate wines of quality and distinction from their family owned Bavarian Lion Vineyards in the esteemed Knights Valley of Sonoma County. Located in the saddle of the Vacas Mountain range between the northern end of Napa Valley and the southern end of Sonoma’s Alexander Valley, this unique appellation, with its warmer climate and slightly higher elevation, creates ideal conditions for growing the famed red wine grapes of Bordeaux (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petite Verdot). Pierre Ehret developed his appreciation and understanding of fine wines while growing up in Düsseldorf, Germany, and also while running his family owned Flamingo Resort Hotel and Conference Center in the heart of Sonoma wine country. In 1996, the Ehrets found their way into the wine industry when they established the Bavarian Lion Vineyards and began selling grapes to such notables as Beringer
Winery, Adobe Road Winery, and Cakebread Cellars. After ten years of premium grape-growing, the Ehrets decided to hire renowned international winemaker Nick Goldschmidt and Ehret Family Winery was born. With Goldschmidt’s minimalist
approach to winemaking and the Ehrets’ access to prestigious Knights Valley fruit, Ehret Family Winery stands as one of Sonoma’s premier artisan wineries – one that will continue, with well earned respect, far into the future.
