Cerro Prieto is a small, family vineyard on the Westside Templeton Gap area in Paso Robles, the booming wine region of California’s Central Coast. Owned by Larry and Teresa Stanton, the Cerro Prieto Estate Vineyard was planted in 1999 with the intention of selling premium grapes and, eventually, bottling estate wines. The Stantons wanted to first work and tend to the vineyard until they thought the grapes and juice it produced was of the highest standard and quality. After much success with their fruit, the Stantons began selling grapes to a number of ultra-premium brands within the area and decided to bottle Cerro Prieto Estate Wines in 2006. The initial release included just two wines: an Estate Reserve Merlot and a Bordeaux style blend aptly named Paso Bordo. Each wine has an extremely small case production and is only available within the winery tasting room and at a handful of local upscale restaurants. Cerro Prieto uses eco-friendly farming methods to produce their medal-winning grapes and wines, and aims to be 100% organic in the near future.
