The Seitz family’s journey into the wine industry began in the vineyard, when Mike Seitz was lured to California by the romance of farming grapes. A highly skilled viticulturist, Mike had the pleasure of tending to some of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards while working alongside several well-known growers. Mike’s wife Kristi was born and raised in Napa’s wine country, growing up with a love for the Valley and a desire to one day be a part of the thriving winery business. Dreams quickly became reality as Mike’s relationships with top notch growers turned to opportunity, and he was given the privilege to cherry-pick premium fruit from prestigious vineyard sites throughout Napa Valley. Mike and Kristi established Brookdale Vineyards together in 2000, releasing their first vintage in 2002 with almost immediate success. Brookdale, by the way, was named after a horse farm in Lexington, Kentucky where Mike’s dad grew up and which his uncle still owns today. The small horse on the front of the wine label ties the family history together. In 2003, the Seitz family was hit with tragedy when Mike passed away in a farming accident, but his indomitable spirit lives on today. Kristi and their son Charlie dedicate each vintage of Brookdale Cabernet Sauvignon to Mike, remembering him as a wonderful husband and father who left an unforgettable mark on the Napa wine community.
