From aerospace research and commercial beekeeping to playing bass in a number of jazz and rock bands, it seemed Steve Autry had dabbled in just about everything – that was until 1983 when he had a “wine epiphany” while drinking a Zinfandel. Steve decided to try his hand in winemaking, and for a number of years crafted unique bottlings to be shared with family and friends. By 2001, Steve was making wine full time and his tiny entity, Autry Cellars, was born. Located in the heart of San Luis Obispo wine country, Autry Cellars is proud to be one of the smallest wineries on the Central Coast of California with just 800 cases produced each year of premium quality, hand crafted wines. Steve selects his grapes from some of the best vineyards in Edna Valley and Paso Robles, and makes a number of different wines including a Petite Sirah, Tempranillo, Zinfandel, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. His meticulously crafted wines may be hard to find though, as they are only available in a small number of fine restaurants or the winery’s tasting room, which is in the process of expanding to a stunning new vineyard location in Edna Valley this summer.
