Attilio Ghisolfi - Piedmont, Italy

Diamond Plus! selection - 95 Points Wine Spectator!

Piedmont, Italy encompasses the northwestern region of the country and is renowned for its prize-winning wines, especially the highly praised Barolos that are recognized and appreciated all over the world.

This month’s special Diamond Series Plus! wine comes from the southern corner of Piedmont, from the Attilio Ghisolfi Winery with Nebbiolo vineyards planted over 50 years ago. The Ghisolfi family estate is known for producing some of the best Barolo wines in the country! Attilio Ghisolfi Winery’s roots date back to 1885 when Carlo Ghisolfi bought a small 9-acre property and started growing the traditional local grape varieties of Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Freisa. Carlo’s son and grandson expanded the property over the years until they had accumulated 21 acres of neighboring lands, and sold the prize-worthy grapes to neighboring wineries.

In 1987, Carlo’s great grandson Gianmarco Ghisolfi came into the family business and, with his father Attilio, decided to start producing wines under their own label. The first vintage under the Attilio Ghisolfi label was in 1988 and it included a Barolo Bussia Bricco Visette (100% Nebbiolo grapes), named after the hill of Carlo’s original 9 acres. This wine is now the Ghisolfi family’s most prestigious label, and it has made their winery known all over the country and the world.

Attilio Ghisolfi is one of the great Italian Barolo producers and it is an extremely rare opportunity to enjoy their critically acclaimed wines.
