Sonoma Coast AVA
Sonoma, North Coast
Arguably one of the most picturesque wine regions in California, the Sonoma Coast AVA features 500,000 acres of rugged coastline and gently rolling dairy land. Dotted with small towns that include Cotati, Rohnert Park, Petaluma, portions of Healdsburg, Santa Rosa and Sonoma as well as Sebastopol, the region has over 25,000 acres under vine and is home to around 20 wineries and handful of tasting rooms.
The appellation is known for its cool climate and relatively abundant rainfall. The direct influence of the Pacific Ocean shapes the region. In the north many of the vineyards are planted on high ridges just above the fog line. In the middle of the region the grapes find a home in sheltered valleys and hillsides. To the south near the town of Petaluma the vines are directly affected by the wind and fog of the Pacific. The area is best known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with some Syrah also planted in the area.
We recently featured wines in our Garagiste Wine Club, Pinot Noir Wine Club, and Gold Wine Club and Platinum Wine Club from this prestigious California wine region.
